Alignment-based hatha yoga instruction in the Iyengar tradition.
Great care is taken during the class to explain each yoga posture in appropriate, accurate detail to enable the participant to perform the posture to the best of their ability. The postures are held for carefully calculated lengths of time, encouraging each individual to deepen their understanding of the posture and to enjoy maximum physiological and psychological benefits. Careful monitoring of the participants performance of the asanas makes this style of hatha yoga suitable for all, regardless of age or physical limitations.
Each term is for twelve weeks and the classes follow a 4-week cycle:
* Weeks 1-2: Standing poses, seated poses, forward bends, twists, etc.
* Week 3: Backbends
* Week 4: pranayama
Inverted poses such as salamba sarvangasana (shoulder balance) and sirsasana (head balance) are introduced as participants progress.
Hatha Yoga: Gentle and Restorative classes are designed to support beginners in learning various postures in such a way as to bring the greatest benefits with a minimal expenditure of energy.
Classes take place in the Victoria Hall at St Jude’s Church, use the Thomas St. entrance, in the heart of ‘old’ Oakville.
