- BKS Iyengar.
In Memoriam
Growing up in London England, Jim could not have imagined his life would include so many diverse and meaningful experiences and connections. Immigrating to Canada as a young man provided him with a reality of adventure and possibility. It was here he met the love of his life, Nancy Hornell. He could not imagine his life without her continued love and support.

While working in a gruelling Toronto professional career as a graphic artist, Nancy and Jim were enticed by the prospect of the balanced Vancouver lifestyle and moved there to begin a new chapter in their lives. Once there, a visit to a community centre to participate in a yoga class changed the direction of his calling. Intrigued and enthusiastic, he became a yoga student, volunteer and teacher. He refocused from running marathons, jumping from airplanes and climbing mountains to the yoga mat to begin the most challenging life practice.
A move back to Oakville and the opening of Sunseed Yoga Studio allowed him to study, practice and teach yoga to many students for over 20+ years. Trips to India, workshops with Father Joe Pereira, and many volunteer experiences including CAMH and KFIY added to the richness and development of the yoga community.
Finally, his purpose turned inward to dedicate his attention to wellness as he faced a challenging medical diagnosis. He continued to walk the path of the yogi, remaining a mentor and friend. He encouraged us to continue to practice yoga. "Shine your light bright and discover the wholeness of your life and always remember, you are the spark of divinity."

According to Jim’s wishes he has been cremated. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, September 14th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the Victoria Hall at St. Jude’s Anglican Church, 160 William Street, Oakville, where we will come together to honour his life.
The event will be live streamed for those who cannot attend - a link will be provided upon request.
